Skype Now Lets You Make Emergency Calls in the United States Skype now lets you make emergency calls in the United States February 18, 2022by Martin 6 Despite having a new version of Teams designed for personal use, Microsoft still updates Skype regularly. Skype version 8.80 was recently released , and it comes with several improvements to the experience on both mobile and desktop. However, the biggest new capability is the ability to make emergency calls using Skype in the United States. If you've ever tried to call a phone number from Skype, you've probably seen a warning that emergency calls are not supported in the past. It's been that way for years, but that seems to be changing, and it has some benefits to boot.
Not only can you call 911 through Skype — so you can use your C Level Executive List computer if you don't have your phone handy — but Skype can also automatically share your location with emergency help. This feature is turned off by default to respect your privacy, but it can be very useful in an emergency, so you can enable it in Skype settings. It can make it easier for responders to find you if you don't know your location or can't share it for one reason or another. Some other new features are also rolling out with Skype 8.80. Another interesting thing is the ability to expand the screen sharing during a video call. This happens a lot, especially on mobile, when someone is sharing their screen with you, it's hard to read some text because you're seeing it as a compressed video feed that's usually smaller than the original sharing display. This should make it easier to share text and see more details in screen sharing on Skype.
Microsoft has also made it possible to use custom reactions in Skype for mobile devices with this update, and several features have been improved. You can now record voicemails that last up to 5 minutes, instead of the 2 minute limit that existed before. Finally, the lighting mode will also be applied to the background of Skype calls, which is something that Microsoft announced as a big part of its planned Skype redesign back in September. As usual, this release also includes some bug fixes that should improve the overall Skype experience. You can download the latest version of Skype from the official website or use the links below. You can also check for updates within the app (on the desktop) or from your platform's app store. You don't need to update Skype to make an emergency call, but you can try it if it doesn't work for you. Note that it is only available in the United States.
